Troopers investigate double fatal on I-75


WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WDTN) — Troopers are investigating double fatal crash in Auglaize County.

The crash happened on I-75 north about two miles south of Cridersville around 9 p.m. Friday.

According to officials, 41-year-old John Strachan of Dayton was driving his motorcycle north on I-75 in the left lane along with 20 other motorcyclists.

Troopers stated several motorcycles lost control for an unknown reason. Strachan and his passenger, 47-year-old Helen Coleman were thrown from the motorcycle. Coleman was hit by a 2012 commercial truck traveling in the right lane. Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene. Strachan was transported to Lima Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the commercial truck was not injured.

Two other motorcycles were also involved in the accident. Troopers said 40-year-old Sean Bast, 42-year-old Cherelle Ortberg, and 46-year-old Kurtis Kirby were all ejected and transported to Lima Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Kirby later died from his injuries.
