MORAINE, Ohio (WDTN) – Police are looking for the man who tried to rob a clerk at the Super 8 Hotel on Dryden Road early Monday.

The clerk told police a man walked into the lobby around 2:00 a.m. The suspect reportedly jumped over the counter and pulled out a knife.

Police say the clerk offered to give the suspect cash from the register, but the suspect demanded to be taken to the vault.

At that point, police say the clerk feared for his life so he fought back.

Sgt. Mike Keegan said, “Each situation is different. We tell our clerks to cooperate with the person. None of the money is worth their lives. But he felt his life was in jeopardy at that point and a struggle ensued.”

The clerk was able to get the knife from the suspect and the man ran off empty handed.

Police say the clerk was hurt during the struggle, but his injuries are not serious.

Officers set up a perimeter around the area but were not able to find the suspect.
