Deputy faces obstruction charge

URBANA, Ohio (WDTN) – A Clark County sheriff’s deputy pleaded guilty Monday to a charge of attempted obstructing official business.

Prosecutors said Kerns impeded a murder investigation involving a relative, Christopher Myers, when he destroyed a letter written to him by Myers.

In the letter, Myers talked about the death of Jerald Myers and provided certain details regarding an altercation that took place between Christopher Myers and Jerald Myers, prosecutors said.

Myers is accused of killing his father and injuring his brother in Urbana on Memorial Day.

Kearns faces a possible sentence of 6-18 months in prison and a possible fine of up to $5,000.

Kearns is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 3, 2014 at 1:15 p.m.

Kearns is currently on administrative leave.
