DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A man is under arrest after officers say he was trying to lure children into his car with pastries.
Dayton police were called to the area of George Street and Treadway Avenue Monday afternoon on reports of a suspicious person.
Witnesses told officers they saw a man approach a 10-year-old boy around 5:30 p.m. The boy would not get in the man’s car.
Investigators then say a 9-year old boy was approached and reached inside the man’s passenger side window of his car to accept the treats. They say the man grabbed the boy’s wrist.
That is when the boy’s mother saw what was happening and yelled at the suspect. Police say he took off, only to try and lure a 17-year-old to his car.
Police say the older children did the right thing.
“It’s important that parents teach their kids to run from strangers and run for help, find a police officer, run to a store,” said Lt. Wendy Stiver, Dayton Police Department. “It’s a disturbing case. We know he had the pastries, treats in his car to lure the kids.”
Police later received a tip about the suspect’s car and arrested him.
Marcus Arrowood, 52, is in the Montgomery County Jail on charges of kidnapping and child enticement.
