DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Homeowners across the Miami Valley are buying trees, replacing those lost to the emerald ash borer.

Pete Kossoudji with North Dayton Garden Center and Nursery said customers are coming in replacing their damaged trees.

“They are coming in asking for Brandy wine maple. Brandy wine maple is one of the fall red maples that turns a blazing red color in the fall,” Kossoudji said.

He said the emerald ash borer may have destroyed ash trees, but it didn’t destroy business. He’s see at least 15 to 20 percent more customers come in looking to replace their damaged trees

Kossoudji said it’s important to have a variety of trees in a neighborhood so that if another attack happens, not all trees will be affected.

“I don’t think you’ll see ever again where early in the 50s the same thing was planted everywhere . That is not going to happen anymore because the people are smarter and so are the nursery growers,” Kossoudji said.
