MORAINE, Ohio (WDTN) – Chinese manufacturer Fuyao has hired A local company to revitalize the long vacant General Motors property in Moraine.

A local firm, Woolpert Inc., has been tasked with transforming the former GM plant into Fuyao’s glass manufacturing facility.

According to our partners at the Dayton Business Journal, the plant is now expected to employ 1,000 people. That’s up from the initial 800.

But first it needs a new look.

“Some of the challenges, we’re taking a manufacturing plant, an assembly plant that’s been setting idle for over seven years and now making it into a world class automotive glass facility,” said Mike Stanoikovich, Woolpert senior v.P.

Those with Woolpert say this is the first time Fuyao’s redeveloped a site rather than build new.

But Woolpert has experience with that kind of work, doing master plans for facilities like the Wilmington Air Park, which once housed DHL.
