Stargell sentenced for businessman’s murder

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The killer of a Dayton businessman will spend his life in prison.

A Montgomery County judge sentenced Anthony Stargell, Jr. Tuesday morning to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

A jury declined ask for the death penalty during proceedings last month.

Stargell was convicted in the 2012 shooting death of Tommy Nickels in Dayton.

Nickels and his dog were killed inside his business that Stargell then set on fire to cover up the crime. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
