Springfield makes strides to fight breast cancer

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – The American Cancer Society hoped to raise more than $50,000 Saturday to help fight breast cancer.

They hosted the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5k walk at the Springfield Regional Cancer Center. More than 1,000, survivors, caregivers, volunteers and residents turned out for the noncompetitive event that aimed to raise $65,000. Last year, the event raised $57,000.

Organizers say an estimated 232,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2014.

Since 1993, nationwide, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer has raised more than $594 million and welcomed 10 million walkers.
