Salon giving proceeds to breast cancer research

RIVERSIDE, Ohio (WDTN) – A Riverside hair salon is using its grand opening to raise awareness for breast cancer.

After more than 60 years in operation, Spin-Kemp Hair Salon on Spinning Road is under new ownership.

Kim Abney, who owns the salon, said she wanted to have a re-grand opening in honor of breast cancer awareness month.

The salon offered $10 haircuts Sunday.

Fifty percent of the proceeds is being donated for breast cancer research.

“Breast cancer kind of speaks to a lot of women,” said Abney. “Along with the salon and beauty, a lot of the women with the wigs. They come here and we help them style them. It just makes them feel better about themselves.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
