Evers-Williams keynote speaker for NAACP

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A special keynote speaker will address the NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet Friday evening.

Myrlie Evers-Williams is a renowned journalist and civil rights activist. She, along with her first husband, the late Medgar Evers, are considered pioneers of the Civil Rights Movement in the United States.

She and Medgar opened the first NAACP office in Mississippi. Medgar Evers was assassinated in June 1963 leaving behind Myrlie and their three children.

The 63rd Annual Freedom Fund Banquet will be held at the Dayton Convention Center. It gets underway at 6:00 p.m.
