DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Police have been to the home of Ashia McFadden and Ricardo Santiago for domestic issues more than three times in the past several months, including once last month.
But its what happened Wednesday morning in front of the couple’s five kids that police are calling a murder-suicide attempt.
Dispatch: “Your father shot your mother?”
One of the five children in the home called 911 and described to dispatchers what he saw. Those children range in age from toddlers to teens.
Dispatch: “He just came into the room and shot her?”
The boy told dispatchers his father shot his mother and then himself. When police arrived to the home on Neal Avenue, they found 31-year-old Ashia McFadden dead in an upstairs bedroom.
Her husband 31-year-old Ricardo Santiago had gunshot wounds as well.
“Through previous call history we discovered that there were previous domestic violence between the two,” said Sgt. Zimmerman with the Dayton Police Department.
2 NEWS uncovered a previous police report from September where Ashia McFadden told police Ricardo Santiago went to Grandview Hospital. She said he was a schizophrenic and hadn’t been taking his medications.
Dispatch: “Have they been having problems before?”
The child replied, “yes.”
Cynthia Robinson says shes known Ashia McFadden for years and when she heard her friend had been fatally shot, Robinson wasn’t surprised.
“I was thinking, I knew it. I knew this was going to happen, I knew it, I knew it,” said Robinson.
She said he would complain about hearing voices and seeing things and its that reason she’s concerned there were guns in the house to begin with.
“I don’t know how he was able to obtain those guns from a pawn shop with his background, I just don’t know, but they had too many guns in this house,” Robinson said.
