DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – There is no doubt that prescription drugs can be expensive.

A Consumer Reports survey found that 14 percent of 1,100 people surveyed admit to skipping a dose to save.

17 percent said they never got a needed refill.

A new smartphone app is designed to help. The app, LowestMed, negotiated discount prices with 60,000 pharmacies nationwide.

“A lot of people who buy their medications, they have to cut back in groceries, they have to cut back on bills. It affects their personal finances,” said Brad Bangerter, President, LowestMed.

The app allows you to enter the name of a drug then it will compare prices at pharmacies in your area.

Bangerter says the app can save your money regardless of your insurance coverage.

“If you’re paying out of packet costs because you have a deductible, or you have a high co payment, simply take the best price and use it.”

LowestMed is available for both Apple and Android devices. It is free to download. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
