SIDNEY, Ohio (WDTN) — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has arrested the man they say caused a deadly crash, then took off.
Carl Graber, 33, of Sidney was taken into custody without incident Monday, Nov. 10 at 2:11 p.m. at the intersection of Vandermark and Russell roads in Sidney.
The crash happened Saturday, Nov. 8 around 11:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Lindsey Road.
When deputies arrived, they found a 2003 Ford F-150 heavily damaged and blocking the roadway.
According to investigators, Graber was driving south on Lindsey Road and traveled over the CSX railroad tracks at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then lost control, veered off the road and slammed into a tree before coming to a rest in the middle of the roadway. Officials said the passenger in the vehicle, 23-year-old Brittany Elliott of Sidney was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.
Graber was booked into the Shelby County Jail on a charge of vehicular homicide.
