PIQUA, Ohio (WDTN) — A growing candy and coffee maker will soon have a new location to house its operation.
As the former site of the Piqua Daily Call, the building in the 300 block of Spring Street once made headlines. Now it’s creating them for a different reason.
The facility is the new home of Winans Fine Chocolates and Coffee, which is one of the area’s fastest growing businesses.
“We are bursting at the seems as you can imagine,” says owner Joe Reiser.
Winans has gone from one store to 13 with a location as far away as Iowa, but the company still made its chocolates in the same small space.
Now it will not only be able to make more chocolates but the new building will also include a shop, a museum and space for tours.
“At this point it will allow us to keep doing what we’re doing and do it even better,” Reiser says.
The building could use a fresh coat of paint, but it’s largely well designed for what Winans needs.
“If we were to build a building somewhere it would pretty much be this building,” Reiser says. “It’s laid out perfectly.”
Reiser says he anticipates some growth but doesn’t know how many jobs might be added.
The building is a boost for Piqua where the candy maker first started more than 50 years ago.
“I think people are going to be discovering there’s a lot going on here,” Reiser says.
The hope is to have everything up and running by summer.
