DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Some people beat the holiday rush and got their Christmas shopping done early while also supporting local businesses.
More than 50 local vendors set up shop Sunday for a Holiday Shopping Palooza at Emerson Academy in Dayton.
Folks browsed through Christmas ornaments and crafts.
The event not only benefited local businesses but also supported a Dayton mother of two who is terminally ill with cancer. All proceeds from concessions will be put towards a gift card for food for her family and Christmas presents for her kids.
“The big chains are getting way too overwhelming when it comes to Black Friday,” said organizer Melia Rambostump who talked about the benefits of shopping at the bazaar. “Instead of supporting a big chain that’s going to be making money anyways, you’re supporting a local businessman or woman who might now have that extra money for Christmas.”
This was the first year for the event. Organizers said they will have another shopping event in the spring.
