Man suspected of drug overdose near Cashland

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A man is in trouble after police believe he overdosed on painkillers while he was supposed to be caring for his nephew.

Police were called to the Cashland located at 2933 Linden Avenue Saturday afternoon.

When officers arrived, they found a man sitting in a chair near the front register with his 7-year-old nephew. Police said the 22-year-old man was off-balance slurring his speech, drooling, and appeared heavily intoxicated.

The suspect told police he walked with his nephew to Cashland from their Kolping Avenue home to buy a video game and then food.

The man told officers before they went to Cashland, he took Clonazepam and Norco for pain and said the drugs were prescribed to him.

Employees reported the man drooled on a jewelry case and walked outside the store at one point left his nephew unattended inside.

The little boy told police he was “scared for his uncle”.

The man was taken to Miami Valley Hospital to be treated for a possible prescription drug overdose.

He was issued a summons for child endangering.
