DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton police are trying to piece together a bizarre chain of events that led to a shooting early Tuesday.
Officers were called to the 700 block of Wilfred Ave. around 2:30 a.m. where they say a man told them he was sitting in his truck when someone shot into the car, hitting him in the leg. His girlfriend told police a group of men was also hitting the truck with baseball bats. They ran away before police arrived.
Police believe that same truck was involved in an incident earlier in the night on South Torrence St. They got reports of a large fight, and a man in a red Dodge Ram speeding around the neighborhood with a pellet gun. Witnesses told them the truck had two busted tail lights.
The red Dodge Ram they found on Wilfred Ave. also had busted tail lights.
Police say they also responded to the report of a dog bite on South Torrence around the same time as the fight.
A 2 NEWS crew saw one man in the back of a police cruiser on Wilfred Ave., but officers could not confirm to us if anyone was in custody.
