10-year-old suffers partial amputation at school

Dayton Children's Hospital

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A 10-year-old ends up in the hospital after another student slammed his hand in a door at school.

Officers met with the mother and her son at Dayton Children’s Hospital Friday around 7 p.m. on an alleged assault complaint.

The mother told police two boys in her son’s class got into a fight before school let out at Edwin Joel Brown PreK-8. The boy told police he was leaning up against a wall in the hallway and had a grasp on the door jam when one of the boys in a fight said he was mad and slammed the classroom door on his hand. The 10-year-old said he didn’t think the boy knew his hand was in the door.

Police said the boy sustained a partial amputation and fracture. He also had to have the nail and skin on his ring and middle fingers sewn back on.

Officers completed a memo for the incident.

Officials are still investigating.
