DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – It’s the day after Christmas and shoppers say its the best day to get those sales and deals.

Shoppers like Dan Mercatante say he knows first hand why today is expected to be one the busiest shopping day of the year.

“Its the best deals, I used to work in retail and everybody has inventory in January, I know that being I used to be a manager and they want to get rid of everything in the store so this is the best time to shop” said Dan Mercatante, an after Christmas shopper.

But other shoppers say those deals don’t last long.

“I think everything is pretty much picked over so we’re just here to have fun” said Kim Norvell, another after Christmas shopper.

Other shoppers are putting their gift cards to use.

“I am spending holiday money, I got a gift card for Old Navy and some other money mom gave me” said Ellen Krull, after Christmas shopper.

2 NEWS did some checking and according to national projections, the bulk of post-holiday sales are clothing related.

Shoppers are also gobbling up deals on Technology and beauty products.

Retails experts say thanks to job growth and falling gas prices, malls and outlet stores could see their second busiest day of the year.

“You’re going to get better prices, I worked at Macy’s, Im going to go to Buckle and then go take a look at Macy’s” said Mercatante.
