Nurse, patient attacked in hospital

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Officers rushed to the hospital after a nurse and stroke patient were attacked by another patient.

Police were called to Good Samaritan Hospital on Philadelphia Drive around 11:30 a.m. Thursday for an assault.

Officers spoke with a nurse who said she was taking care of a patient in the Emergency Room who suffered a stroke when the suspect — who was already admitted to the ER in another room — kept walking into the room saying he needed help. The nurse said the suspect then punched her in the face a few times before also punching the patient.

Campus security said the suspect then lunged at an officer and tried to grab his gun. The officer then deployed his taser.

The suspect was then placed into handcuffs and on a bed in the hospital. He was evaluated for psychological care, and therefore wasn’t arrested since the hospital needed to keep him for evaluation.

Police said they were unable to speak with the patient the suspect was accused of attacking since the patient had a stroke.

Police are still investigating the attack.
