DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – With sleet and freezing rain forecasted, people are making a quick dash to their local stores to stock up.

“Buy extra fruit, vegetable, milk, juice– that type of thing,” Janet Daub advised.

Which is exactly what Daub came to do, herself, but once she’s done shopping, “I’ll be indoors after this evening, yes, I’ll be indoors,” she confirmed.

Others are just trying to keep afloat and make sure they’ll be able to get to work.

And that means having the tools to dig themselves out in the morning.

Jenn Smith the one thing she’ll have is,”Probably salt.”

“I shovel and salt the driveway and that’s more or less it. I mean, there’s not a whole that you can do,” Smith’s husband, Chris, said. “I man, we live in a back street that doesn’t get plowed so we just take care of our driveway.”

Salt has been the top product most shoppers are looking for both at grocery stores and hardware stores.

“We have plenty of salt,” said an Ace Hardware supervisor. “We have enough salt to last this weather and enough for the next one too.”

Many stores say they will keep their normal hours both Sunday night and Monday.

Officials advise having your home fully stocked and as well, making sure your car is prepped for your morning trips.
