UPDATE: According to WHIO.com, Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson resigned his position with WHIO-TV and plans to take a sabbatical from broadcasting to focus on his family.
XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) – The chief meteorologist for WHIO-TV pleaded guilty to an OVI charge.
Jamie Simpson appeared in Greene County Court Tuesday.
He took a plea deal offered by prosecutors in early January that includes a misdemeanor OVI charge and drops a stop sign violation.
Simpson was sentenced to 180 days in jail, but 177 were suspended. He already completed a 30-day treatment program that will cover the other three days, so no time behind bars. He must also pay a $475 fine and court costs.
Prosecutors say Simpson took responsibility for the crash in November 2014. He crashed his car into a field on East Spring Valley Paintersville Road and U.S. 68. He spent some time in the hospital recovering from his injuries.
A police report indicated that Simpson’s blood alcohol level at the time of the crash was .228, nearly three times the legal limit of .08.
That report says Simpson told a trooper he was drinking vodka before he took the wheel.
His driving privileges are restricted to trips to and from work for the next year.
Simpson must now meet with a probation officer on January 28 to set the terms of probation.
