Charges filed in online puppy selling case

ENGLEWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) – Two people from Englewood are being charged for their alleged part of an online fraud scheme involving puppies that 2 NEWS Investigates first told you about last March.

Alex Harold Stanley Current and Ashley Arnett are facing a grand total of 30 counts of Theft and Tampering with Records in Vandalia Municipal Court. Montgomery County Court declined to bring charges against them.

The Englewood Police Department and the Humane Society of Greater Dayton have been investigating the claims for the past 11 months.

2 NEWS Investigates was contacted by several people who said they were deceived by an online ad claiming to sell purebred puppies.

A Miamisburg family paid $450 for a Newfoundland Puppy only later to find out it was a Schnauzer mix.

In total, The Englewood Police Department and Humane Society found twelve victims who responded to advertisements places by the suspects in online sales sites. They say in some cases false veterinary records were presented to the buyers.
