TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) – Trotwood police have now charged a 21 year old man with the murder of his half-sister.

Late Wednesday afternoon prosecutors approved one count of aggravated murder and two counts of murder against Brian Scales.

Three year old Tristan Carlton was found unresponsive in a bedroom of a home  in the 800 block of Broad Oak Drive Saturday, February 14 in Trotwood.

“We believe there may have been some sort of suffocation involved with the child” said Captain John Porter, Trotwood Police Department.

Police say the child was found by her mother at their home less than two miles away from the Trotwood police station.

“It’s very disturbing, it can rock a lot of the foundation especially for the officers and medics that responded” said Porter.

Medics did respond to the scene, but were unable to revive the child.

Scales was initially arrested on an unrelated domestic violence charge.

Then on Tuesday he was charged with child endangering. Police say he will likely be arraigned on the murder charges later this week.

An autopsy was performed on Tristan but investigators are still waiting for toxicology reports.
