WEST ALEXANDRIA, Ohio (WDTN) – A memorial grows in the yard where two West Alexandria children were killed in a fire.
It is a spot where the siblings of Malea, 10, and Malachi, 9, have visited a couple of times over the last few days.
“I won’t be able to watch Malachi play any sports,” said Alex Bradburn, 17. “I won’t be able to possibly give Malea away at her wedding.”
Alex had spent the last six months reconnecting with his younger siblings from his home in Richmond, Indiana.
Despite being separated living with the children’s paternal side of the family, Alex said he was always thinking of them.
The afternoon before the fire, Alex and Malea would exchange their last picture with each other.
“She sent me a picture and said, ‘Hey,'” said Bradburn. “That was the last time I got to talk to her.
Firefighters were called to the home on the 3400 block of US 35 around 3:30 a.m. last Saturday.
According to court documents, filed Wednesday, it would be at least three hours later when investigators would learn Malea and Malachi were inside the home alone.
Court documents show the children’s mother, Chastity Hall, was out at two clubs, including the 230 Club in Eaton, before heading over to two other homes. Hall would only return home around 1:45 a.m. to freshen her makeup.
Hall has been charged with two counts of child endangering.
Her ex-boyfriend, Arcadio Escobar, has also been charged with trespassing after visiting the home late the same night. Prosecutor’s say there’s no link to Escobar and the fire.
Court documents also showed firefighters visited the home two months ago to a fire started by Malachi. Counseling was offered to help him but Hall refused.
Days after the tragedy, Malea and Malachi’s older brother is sharing his final message to them.
“I would just tell them, ‘I love you. You’re in good hands,'” said Bradburn.
Hall has since posted bail. Escobar remains in the Preble County Jail.
Funeral services for Malea and Malachi Bradburn are set for Saturday.
The children’s family is hoping to start a scholarship fund for students in West Alexandria in Malea and Malachi’s name. Donations can be made at this link.
