MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) – The trial has started for a registered sex offender, charged again with sexually assaulting a minor.

44-year old Craig Turpin sat in court and listened to a full day of testimony. The alleged victim, an eight-year old girl and her brother took the stand.

Turpin is charged with three counts of rape, gross sexual Imposition and kidnapping. Prosecutors say Turpin lived in an apartment complex with the girl and her family, becoming friends with the children.

While the mom went to work, police say Turpin invited the kids over to his place.

During today’s testimony – the boy told the court Turpin gave him money to buy candy while he stayed home with the girl.

Eventually police say the child told her mother, who called police.

Turpin was convicted in a previous, unrelated case involving a minor and has been a registered sex offender since 2000. That fact is something prosecutors aren’t allowed to mention to jurors.

Prosecutors believe the jury will get this case by the end of the week.
