Sibert joins 1000 point club in UD win over GM

DAYTON  (WDTN)– Shortly after junior, Dyshawn Pierre was awarded before the start of the game for scoring his 1,000th career point; a second Flyer earned the next spot on the list of Dayton men’s 1,000 point scorers. Behind 24 points, senior Jordan Sibert shot 7-of-10 from the field and 5-of-6 from the three-point line. The University of Dayton Flyers defeated the George Mason Patriots 76-63 at UD Arena tonight.

Sibert finished with 24 poitns and two steals, followed by Kendall Pollard with 16 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore, Kyle Davis, contributed 13 points and four rebounds and Pierre finished with nine rebounds and five assists. The Flyers are now 21-6 overall and tied for second place in the Atlantic 10 at 11-4.

Dayton is currently 15-0 at home this season and has won 20 straight home games dating back to last year.

Pierre opened the game with a three-pointer and was followed by sophomore, Kyle Davis‘s back-to-back-to-back high-powered layups that boosted Dayton at the beginning of the first half. With five lead changes and six times tied, Dayton went into the locker room ahead of the Patriots 35-31. Dayton shot 46.2% from the field as well as 50% from three-point range in the first half. Sibert led the Flyers in the first half with 10 points, followed by Davis with nine and Kendall Pollard with six points and four rebounds.

Dayton began the second half with high intensity and extended the lead by 13 points. The Flyers improved their shooting percentage from 12-of-26 (46.2%) to 13-of-19 (68.4%). Seven minutes into the second half, Sibert hit two three-pointers which created important separation from the Patriots. Junior, Bobby Wehrli sank a three with ten minutes remaining in the game to lift the Flyers 59-44.
With help from Sibert, UD’s three-point game couldn’t be stopped and they finished the game 9-of-17 (52.9%) from the three-point line. Sophomore, Kendall Pollard had a big block with six minutes remaining and had a solid finish with 16 points and eight rebounds.

George Mason was led by freshman, Isaiah Jackson who had 13 points and seven rebounds.  The Patriots fall to 8-19 overall and 3-12 in the A-10.

The Flyers see action next at VCU on Saturday, February 28th at 2 pm. VCU sits at first place in the Atlantic 10.
