Spike in sledding injuries triggers warning

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton Children’s Hospital is warning parents to be extra careful after a spike in sledding injuries.

Doctors say while sledding is fun, children can be killed if they hit their head or spine incorrectly.

Children should sled on hills that aren’t too steep and make sure there is a long flat area at the bottom for sleds to slow down and stop.

Make sure kids are using a sled that is appropriate for their age.

Dress them in appropriately warm clothing to help avoid hypothermia and frost bite.
