Man arrested following hour-long standoff

COVINGTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A man is behind bars after an hour-long standoff in Covington Friday.

Police were called to a domestic dispute in the 100 block of South Main Street just before 5 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man outside the apartment building waving a gun.

According to officials, two people were inside the apartment and were afraid to leave.

Police surrounded the area and called in Miami County sheriff’s deputies for backup.

Residents nearby were ordered to stay inside their homes, and Buffalo Jacks, a nearby restaurant was told to keep patrons inside.

According to police, the suspect was upset and announced he wanted officers to shoot him. Officers spent about an hour negotiating with the man and calming him down, at which point he eventually surrendered.

Michael J. Krenciprock, 42, was taken into custody. He faces charges of domestic violence, disrupting public services, inducing panic, and resisting arrest.

No one was injured in the incident.
