WILMINGTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The two month long search to find a missing police dog turned up something else.

The Wilmington police chief says the search for Karson resulted in the recovery of seven other lost dogs.

One lost pup in particular found a new home with one of the people searching to find Karson.k9 karson

Roxann Gray, of Spring Valley, told WLWT-TV she spent hours searching for Karson, but found a new best friend instead.

“Griffin was out there for twice as long as Karson, but it took Karson being on the run for Griffin to come home,” said Gray.

Gray told WLWT that Griffin did have a microchip implanted, but the owner information was blocked.

Griffin was captured in a trap set for Karson along the Greene County, Warren County line. He was found New Year’s Eve and had an injured leg, but is now a loving family member of the Grays.

Griffin will have surgery on his leg Friday.

Karson, in the meantime, continues to train for a return to the police force.
