Man pours gasoline all over home prompting police response

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A disturbance with gasoline prompted police to respond to a Dayton home.

Police were called to the 1200 block of Valley Street after 1 p.m. Friday.

When officers arrived, they said a woman was outside in the backyard telling them a man was inside the home. Police said as they approached the front door they could smell a strong odor of gasoline and a man inside screaming.

Officers said the man refused to open the door and said he had a gun. When police advised him that the SWAT team was going to be called, he opened the door and told police he didn’t have a weapon. He was then placed in handcuffs.

Police spoke with the victim. She said the suspect had been arguing with her about giving him money to buy alcohol. She said he told her he had a gun and was going to shoot her if she didn’t leave. She said he then poured gasoline all over the house and so she called 911.

Police took the man into custody for aggravated arson and domestic violence. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
