COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Columbus police say they’ll improve social media monitoring, revisit arrest policies and consider additional equipment before Ohio State University’s football season begins this fall.

Columbus police said Friday that officers correctly used tear gas and pepper spray to disperse crowds after the school’s football championship win in January, but the response could have been better.

Deputy Chief Thomas Quinlan tells The Columbus Dispatch police will aim to improve monitoring of social media sites, where police believe students spread the word to converge at the university’s Mirror Lake and Ohio Stadium after the game.

Quinlan also says an aggressive arrest policy with maximum charges will be put in place in the future.

Police are also considering better public-address equipment to broadcast orders and equipping more officers with video cameras.
