Flyers come up short in A10 title game

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Four Flyers scored in double figures, but it wasn’t enough in a 71-65 loss to the VCU Rams in the Atlantic 10 Championship game.

Schoochie Smith led the way with matching a career-high 16 points, Dyshawn Pierre recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  Jordan Sibert scored in double figures in his 10th straight game with 14 points, while Kendall Pollard added 13 points and five rebounds.

Sibert and Pollard were named to the A-10 All-Tournament team.

Sibert would sink three free throws to pull Dayton within two, 67-65, with 10.6 seconds to go, but that would be the closest UD would get. The Rams also hit all eight free throw attempts in the final two minutes to hang on.

Dayton fell to 25-8 overall.

It was Dayton’s fourth appearance in the A-10 title game. The Flyers have won the conference tournament once in 2003. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
