DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A mother is behind bars on OVI and child endangering charges.

Police were called to the area of East Hillcrest and Newport avenues around 2:30 a.m. Sunday on a vehicle stopped in the middle of the street.

When officers arrived, they said they found 27-year-old Kasey Allen laying back in the drivers seat appearing to be sleeping. They said she had a bag of marijuana in her lap and $200. Police said the car was in drive and her foot wasn’t on the brake. They said she was on a hill and it appeared the vehicle just stopped rolling. They also said a small child was sleeping in a car seat in the back of the vehicle.

Police said when they woke up Allen, she was in a state of panic and said she needed help because her car wouldn’t move. Police said she eventually put her vehicle in park.

Officials said when they ordered her to step out of the vehicle, she initially refused and repeatedly asked them what they were doing.

Police stated they had to physically pull Allen from the car. She told officers she had just moved from the area and was currently living in Richmond, Indiana. She told them she didn’t know how she ended up at that intersection.

According to officials, when they asked her if she had taken any drugs, she told them she had taken a Xanax and had a shot of Crown Royal a few hours prior.

Police said Allen failed two of three field sobriety tests that they issued.

The child was released to his grandmother.
