Local woman reacts to Jolie Pitt’s op-ed

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Jaimee Maier-Francis calls it a smart decision. She is reacting to the op-ed piece written by Angelina Jolie Pitt in Tuesday’s The New York Times. The actress, director and activists talks about her recent decision to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed.

Maier-Francis was diagnosed with breast cancer in September 23, 2014. Like Jolie Pitt did in 2013, she too chose to go with the preventative measure and undergo a double mastectomy. Jaimee had surgery in October, began chemotherapy in December and is now more than half way done. Then, a break before beginning 35 radiation treatments followed by reconstructive surgery.

Jolie writes that “knowledge is power” and Jaimee agrees. She says you must be your own advocate and credits her strong support system for helping her get through this: including her husband and family, and organizations like the Pink Ribbon Girls and the Maple Tree Cancer Alliance.
