“We had some fun along the way, no question about it. But in that fun were some very serious messages. We can do this,” said Dr. Estrop. “We’ve tried to inform people about all the options we have available.”

He has a special message for his successor, who will be named Thursday evening.

“This is a great community. Don’t forget that, and most importantly continue to reach out and invite them in. Don’t shut the doors on the community. This community has more grit, more determination, and more resources than some people give us credit for. Take advantage of them,” said Dr. Estrop. “Invite them in. Let them help you. Educate the children of this community. You do that, you’ll be fine.”

Estrop will officially step down in June. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
