WPAFB, Ohio (WDTN) – Leaders at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base formally announced the closure of a high traffic gate Friday.
Gate 12A will close April 3 at 6:00 p.m. for about three weeks to increase security. The gate is off of Route 444 in Fairborn.
88th Air Base Wing Commander Colonel John Devillier says about 2,000 vehicles pass through the gate during peak hours.
The cost of the project is just under $1-million.
Colonel Devillier says the need for increased security measures at the gate are worth the short term inconvenience.
The traffic flow will be re-routed through the Fairborn business district.
Gate 15A and Gate 1A will also be open 24 hours a day to help ease traffic.
