TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) – Police arrested 23-year old George Dewberry Jr. and 20-year old Javon Dawson in connection with a shooting on Biddison Ave. early Thursday.
Officers found a man who had been shot in the leg when they arrived just after 1:30 a.m. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.
A short time later, authorities spotted a car matching the description of the one the suspect left in. The car did not stop, and officers and sheriff’s deputies started a pursuit.
The car crashed on U.S. 35 near the Dayton VA and the driver and a passenger took off running in opposite directions. Dayton officers helped track them down and take them into custody.
The apartment complex where the man was shot is the same place Destiny Mills was shot and killed on March 24. Police do not think she was the intended victim.
“What this comes down to is young people now looking at ways of settling disputes. Turning to violent crimes and the use of guns in these crimes. This is one of the reasons, Dayton police, Montgomery County and Trotwood police department have engaged in the community initiative to reduce gun violence” said Captain John Porter with the Trotwood police department.
Police expect overtime while they investigate both cases. They are still searching for a suspect in the killing of Mills.
Officers don’t believe the two cases are connected.
