DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A construction worker was injured Monday afternoon when an awning collapsed, trapping him underneath.

Rescue crews were sent to a vacant house in the 1200 block of Wyoming Street near St. Paul Avenue around 12:20 p.m.

They say a support beam that was holding up the awning gave way and fell on to two workers.  One was trapped for a short time.  He was not seriously hurt, but was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The other two workers were not hurt.  They say they were trying to salvage the old awning, but it was too rotted.

Housing inspectors were called to the scene to check the soundness of the house.
