Ohio mom accused of decapitating her baby to have hearing

CINCINNATI (AP) – A pretrial hearing is scheduled for a woman accused of decapitating her 3-month-old daughter.

Twenty-year-old Deasia Watkins’ hearing is set for Tuesday in Hamilton County court in Cincinnati. A judge last month ordered Watkins transferred to a facility in Columbus for psychological evaluation. Her attorney entered a not-guilty plea for her.

Police responding to a 911 call last month found Watkins’ daughter decapitated on the kitchen counter in the home of an aunt who was temporarily caring for her. Authorities say the baby had been stabbed multiple times. Authorities say Watkins appeared to be suffering from mental issues when police found her in bed and covered with blood.

The court will decide whether she is competent to stand trial on a charge of aggravated murder.
