FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) – A young pitcher looks in for a sign. He sees what he wants and hurls the ball to home plate.

Just another night at the Wright State University ball field until the catcher’s mask comes off and the boy sees exactly who it is behind the plate.

Brandon Benkovics had no idea it was his dad catching the pitch, especially since he thought his father was still serving overseas in Qatar.

The surprise set up worked perfectly. Brandon was ‘randomly’ chosen to throw out the first pitch of a youth league game. His dad was well hidden in all that catcher’s gear.

Captain Richard Benkovics’ wife, Maria, and their three other children were all on hand to see the surprise.  They already knew dad was home having picked him up at the airport.

Time for hugs and tears all around then it was time to Play Ball!

Welcome home Captain Benkovics.

The family has called Wright-Patterson Air Force Base home for the last four years.
