Butler Co. SWAT returning home from Baltimore

HAMILTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Members of the Butler County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team are returning home from Baltimore.

The team was on security detail in the city under fire by rioters in recent days who are protesting the death of Freddie Gray.

Gray died after suffering a fatal injuries while in police custody.

“Their last security detail ended last night around midnight. With the atmosphere being much calmer than previous nights, I made the decision to bring them home. They drove about half way home last night and then stopped at a hotel until sometime this morning,” said Sheriff Richard Jones.

The team left for Maryland April 28.  They are expected home by midnight Friday.
