YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (WDTN) – A Yellow Springs police officer is being credited with helping save an elderly man and his daughter from drowning.

Rescue crews were called to 118 West North College Street around 11:00 a.m. Friday.

Police say the man, who said to be in his 80s, fell into a Koi pond in the backyard.  His daughter went in to help him and couldn’t get out.  Police say she held her father’s head above water until rescuers arrived.

Officer David Meister says he got on scene first and pulled the victims out.  Both were unresponsive.  They were removed to Greene Memorial Hospital for treatment.
