DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — More than 1,900 walked the stage at UD Arena Sunday to receive their diplomas, including Ohio native Martin Sheen who was awarded an honorary degree.
The commencement ceremony kicked off at 9:45 a.m.
Martin Sheen gave a few brief remarks at the ceremony to the graduates. He was given an honorary doctor of humane letters degree Sunday for his commitment to peace, social justice and human rights. Sheen attended Chaminade High School and grew up near UD, but he wanted to pursue acting instead of a degree.
Sheen is best known for his roles in the television series “The West Wing” and the movie “Apocalypse Now.”
Ceremonies for UD’s graduate and law school students were held Saturday.
