DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Macy’s is toying with the idea of a discount store much like a Nordstrom Rack or TJ Maxx.

It is testing four stores that will open this fall in New York City. They will be called Macy’s Backstage.

The company announced four months ago that it wanted to test the waters of an “off-price” store. It would be a first for the Macy’s brand.

The test stores will offer everything from women’s clothing to home furnishings.

It will stock clearance items as well as name brands at 20 to 80 percent off the original price.

Macy’s operates stores at the Dayton Mall and Mall at Fairfield Commons. A store at the Upper Valley Mall in Springfield closed in January. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
