DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The US Postal Service is looking to “stamp out” hunger.

This is the 23rd year for the event. “Stamp Out Hunger” is the largest one-day food drive in the nation.

All you need to do is leave a bag or box of non-perishable food items in or near your mailbox on Saturday, May 9th, for mail carriers to pick up.

“Letter carriers do so much more than just delivering mail. We care about our communities, we care about taking care of the hungry people,” said John Oross, President of Local National Association of Letter Carriers Branch.

Foodbank Community Relations Manager, Lora Davenport said, “”Without this food there may be that little boy or little girl who lives across the street from you who would go without this help.”

Last year they collected more than 100-thousand pounds of food locally and are hoping to exceed that this year.
