BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio (WDTN) – A 77-year old woman is heading to prison for the death of her mother.

Mary Strawser, 77, was sentenced Monday to 18 months for severely neglecting her 100-year-old mother.

She pleaded guilty in March to reckless homicide.

Prosecutors argued that the neglect went on for years. They say Blanche Cowen was left to die lying on an old couch inside a trailer.

She was found dead in 2014 after a man who lived in the trailer called for medical help, telling medics she was not breathing.

Cowen weighed only 84 pounds when she died.

Strawser can apply for early release after 30 days.
