TROY, Ohio (WDTN) – Firefighters say a child’s body was found inside an apartment building that caught fire early Sunday.

Firefighters were called to the six-unit building in the 1400 block of Trade Square West around 12:30 a.m.

Troy Police Capt. Joe Ling told the Piqua Daily Call that the first officers and deputies on scene couldn’t get inside, reportedly due to furniture against the front door.

Police also confirmed to the paper the young boy who died in the fire was Chance Poindexter, 2.

Covington and Tipp City fire departments responded to help fight the flames that spread to all six apartments.

The boy’s father was transported to the hospital for burns.
