BETHEL TWP., Ohio (WDTN) – Bethel Township firefighters say a family did exactly what they needed to do to save themselves from their burning home.
The fire at 1740 Dale Ridge Road Tuesday afternoon destroyed the house.
Firefighters say the owner was cooking in the kitchen and noticed heat coming from the roof.
“The wind was a factor. The fire was blowing directly into the eaves of the house. Once it vented from the roof that created more fuel to the fire and made it extend very rapidly,” said Jerry Meddock, Bethel Twp. Fire Department.
The family immediately left the house and called 911.
The fire started in the attic. Firefighters say they were able to save some personal items from the home since the family got out so quickly.
The Huber Heights Fire Department and the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Fire Department assisted.
The Red Cross is now helping the family with a place to stay.
