SIDNEY, Ohio (WDTN) – A man accused in a fatal fire in Sidney was found guilty.

The Sidney Daily News is reporting that Derek Eilerman, 24, changed his plea on an involuntary manslaughter charge to no contest. His plea put a stop to a trial set for May 19.

The judge found him guilty and set a sentencing date for June 30.

The December 2014 fire at 305 North Walnut Street killed Jeffrey Hughes, 30. 13 other people who lived in the converted house were rescued.

Firefighters say Eilerman used a type of firework to start the fire. Investigators say they believe he was pulling a prank instead of purposely starting the fire.

Eilerman remains in the Shelby County Jail.
